I will not have been (I need a future past tense like in Turkish) alone. Apparently others have been struck by a meteorite. The site Meteorite Targets has a list and most recently a young girl in the U.K. was struck or had one land at her feet.

The following tip comes from a Macintouch "Jagwire" reader reports:
"... Once you install Jaguar, here's a cool trick brought to you by Quartz Extreme. It takes the current instance of your screensaver and makes it your desktop. Use the screnescreen.com aquarium for the coolest desktop your Mac has ever seen, you will have fish swimming under your desktop icons as you work. Just make sure it's the selected screen effect before running the command below.
Open Terminal Paste this command:
/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background &
(the ampersand returns the PID in case you want to kill it)
to remove:
get process # with Top
kill PID
Always kill the current instance before adding another, or you'll end up with multiples. Clears on its own when you restart."

Slashdotters love Alton Brown's book called Good Eats. Wow! - just goes to show the geek shall inherit the Earth.
I never watch the Food Network but I might need to start. This sounds like my kind of cookbook.

... meanwhile in the dancingest hemisphere of them all, while the war on terrorism rages on, Columbia is falling apart. Other nations in other hemispheres would declare a state of emergency; Columbia declares a State of Internal Commotion and they're doing the locomotion.

Is water from the Northwoods a renewable natural resource? There is an editorial in the Windor Star arguing that the Canada should consider selling the nation's fresh water.
Source: GLIN News
While the editorial does not advocate the privitization of water rights it is only through private property that value can be exercised. "If history could teach us anything, it would be that private property is inextricably linked with civilization."
"I give. Uncle. Like Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce, I will fight no more forever. Like Cincinnatus, I will return to my farm, nevermore to engage battle against the deadly enemy. I will beat my swords into plowshares."

Michigan's Green Party gubernatorial candidate, Doug Campbell, seems like an interesting guy. An engineer and former Republican. I heard a little about him on IPR and he can almost described as a cross between a Libertarian and a Green. He seems like a reasonable guy with a good sense of humour. I'm looking to learn more about him.

The creeping police state Clean Sweep gets praise and criticism -([fake German accent] show me zee papers)- The slippery slope of our decline is beginning to get covered by freezing rain and we're wearing fricking loafers. This has got to stop. We need a thaw and climb back onto the moral high ground where an entity does not institute force against another unless in response to an attack. Now we have a growing amoeba like police state that is consolidating power in the hands of one office so that an undefineable war against terror can be fought on an "as needed" basis.
As the SF Gate asks, "Can a sitting president be charged with plagiarism?"
I tried Starbuck's "Doubleshot" today - Wow is it horrible... it tasted not dissimilar to buttered yoohoo. I expected more from a drink that has about 1 gram of fat per ounce of liquid. So much potential down the drain...
